Morning 2-hour Canyon ride
Our 2-hour Canyon ride is a perfect way to start the day with some Icelandic horse riding and beautiful panoramic views. We will pass along our grazing meadows and then continue on riding paths until we reach the canyon to enjoy the magnificent view and ride alongside it! This is an easy-going tour, suitable for all riding levels.

Afternoon 2-hour Riverside ride
This 2-hour tour is perfect for anyone wanting more time in the saddle, exploring trails only horses can access. A scenic path along rivers, streams, and rolling hills, with distant views of Geysir erupting. It's an easy going ride, all riding levels welcome - we will begin with a walk and, if everyone is up to it, will do a little speeding up!

Evening 1-hour Field ride
In the late afternoons, our 1-hour Field ride is a great activity for unwinding on a horse's back after a day of exploring. We ride in safe and beautiful grazing meadows, will cross a small stream, see sheep and horses in the fields, and, if the weather is clear, see vast highlands and the glacier in the distance.

If you wish to have another route or specific timing, you are welcome to choose any of our custom rides below. All of these options are private for you and your group. We also recommend choosing a custom ride if you are experienced in horse riding and want to book a faster or more advanced ride.

Riding for kids
We are offering riding experience for every single guest - even for the smallest ones! The ride starts in the riding paddock and continues on the riding track around the farm. Our child friendly horses are led from the ground by a guide at all times, which makes it safe for any age.

Field ride
The one hour long Field tour leads to true Icelandic countryside views. We ride in the grazing fields and always have the glacier in sight. The pace is adjusted to the capabilities of our riders so this tour can be both calm and relaxing and surprisingly fast and fun!

Riverside ride
Our 2-hour Riverside ride is the perfect choice for anyone interested in leisurely riding in the serene Icelandic countryside. We ride alongside the large Tungufljót river, see Geysir erupting in the distance and cross small streams. This tour is especially smooth for young or first time riders, but can include some tölt if you're up to it!

River ride
On the River tour we cross the beautiful river Tungufljót, so this is an adventurous ride! Being on horseback in the middle of a big glacial river is an ultimate Icelandic riding experience. To reach the river crossing, we ride deep into the sheep meadows, perfect for trying out the tölt... or gallop! This is a tour for minimum intermediate riding level.

Canyon ride
The canyon through which the Hvítá river is flowing, is likely one of the most breathtaking sights in the area. In this tour we offer to experience this view from horseback, riding along the canyon for almost all of its length. Riding on the cliff's edge is exhilarating experience! It is also great for riding at different speeds.

Forest ride
Haukadalur forest is one of the nicest riding places in the area - on this ride you will not only see shady forest views, Bjarnafjall mountain and geyser Strokkur erupting from a distance, but also, if the weather permits, cross a few rivers and try the tölt on beautiful riding tracks! This tour is great for intermediate to advanced riders.

Gullfoss ride
A private tour to Gullfoss can be definitely something that's worthy of a bucket list! On this private tour we ride next to the very panoramic Hvítá canyon and arrive at the falls in style. At Gullfoss, the horses have a little break while you can admire the waterfall and have a cup of coffee at Gullfoss Cafe.

Countryside ride

Riding FAQ
All the things you need to know before riding at Geysir Hestar!
How physically fit do I need to be to participate? Do I need to have previous riding experience?
Everyone is welcome, and you don't need previous experience! However, we suggest having a reasonable judgement of how fit and ready you are to sit in a saddle for a longer time. During the ride, we might have breaks, so you have to be able to get on and off the horse without assistance. For zero-experience riders, we advise to not do more than 2-hour tours.
What is the weight limit?
We take utmost care of our horses, therefore the maximum weight is 100kg or 200 lbs. We keep a right to refuse a rider if this rule is clearly violated.
How fast is the pace of the tours?
We always start with a walk - to warm up the horses and ourselves. If everyone in the group is comfortable, we try to speed up to tölt or even gallop! It all depends on riders' abilities, level of comfort, and safety.
What do I need to wear and bring with me?
You need to wear comfortable outdoor clothing and closed shoes. You will be outside, sitting relatively still, so you should wear enough to stay warm the whole length of the tour. We always suggest to not underestimate the Icelandic weather and prepare well.
Can I bring personal things on the ride?
You are welcome to bring small, non-bulky items fitting in your pockets like your phone, gloves, etc. We do not permit backpacks or big cameras on the ride. For longer rides, there is a chance to use saddle bags for your items, up for discussion with our guide. Please note that we don't bear any responsibility for damaged or lost items whilst riding.
Do you provide riding gear?
We will provide you with a fitting helmet, head buff, thin riding gloves (for better grip, not for warmth) and rain jackets & trousers to put over your clothes. We don't provide warm clothes, jackets, shoes, or riding clothes.
Can I bring my own riding gear?
You are welcome to do so! But due to the risk of spreading diseases, we have very strict biosecurity measures on what you can and cannot bring to Iceland. We require you to introduce yourself with the rules HERE.
What happens if the weather is bad - too rainy or windy?
Here in Iceland, we ride in any weather! It is our decision to determine if weather is indeed too bad for riding, and in such case we will notify you and offer a free cancellation or a chance to move the tour to another date. If you personally decide to not ride due to weather, you need to contact us in no less than 24 hours before the ride's starting time to be eligible for a refund.
How do payments & cancellations work?
Our Daily rides you can book and do checkout directly online, and you'll receive a confirmation in your email after the payment is completed. For our Custom rides we will first agree on all the details and then charge full price via secure online payment provider. We offer free cancellation/change in rider count/adjustments up to 24 hours before the ride for any reason for any of our rides. After that, the ride is non-refundable.
How much in advance do I need to arrive for my ride? What happens if I am late?
For all rides, we ask that you arrive a minimum of 15 minutes prior to your scheduled start time. Late arrivals may result in missed chance to join the tour, shorter saddle time, or additional fees. If you're running late, always give us a call.
